- Permit can be found offshore on wrecks and debris, and inshore on grass and sand flats, and in channels.
- Permit the largest concentrations of permit are in South Florida, and that's also where the largest fish are usually caught.
- Permit usually travel in schools of 10 or more fish.
- Permit feed mainly on bottom-dwelling crabs, shrimp, small clams and fish.
- Average permits caught weigh up to 25 pounds, but catching a 40 pound permit is not uncommon.
- The largest permit caught in Florida weighed 51 pounds, 8 ounces.
